International conference: Sexuality education in Europe

On 15-16 May 2017, the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA), a WHO Collaborating Centre for Sexual and Reproductive Health, will hold an international technical conference on sexuality education in the WHO European Region in Berlin, Germany.

Sexuality education is an integral part of health promotion and a crucial element to support the healthy development of children and young people. BZgA will welcome experts in the field of sexual and reproductive health and sexuality education throughout the WHO European Region (including Eastern Europe and Central Asia) for a technical exchange on:

  • the current state of sexuality education in the WHO European region,
  • trends and challenges related to the implementation and improvement of sexuality education as well as future strategies and approaches on how to address them.

Target audience

As European WHO Collaborating Centre for Sexual and Reproductive Health, BZgA will welcome experts in the field of sexual and reproductive health and sexuality education throughout the WHO European region and targets in particular:

  • Representatives of Ministries (Health, Youth, Education) and other governmental organizations working in related areas
  • Representatives of NGOs and education associations
  • Researchers
  • Representatives of intranational organizations (WHO/ EUROPE, UNFPA/ EECARO, UNESCO, etc.)

The conference language will be English (Russian interpretation to be discussed).


Aims and objectives of the conference

The overall aim of the conference is to promote sexuality education as integral part of health promotion and as crucial element supporting the healthy development of children and young people.


The conference will be a platform for the facilitation of:

  • Scientific and technical exchange on latest research results and examples of good practice in the field of sexuality education
  • Networking opportunities between international experts working in the field of sexuality education

Specific objectives of the conference are to:

  • Provide an overview on trends and the current state of sexuality education in the WHO European Region
  • Identify current challenges related to the implementation and improvement of sexuality education as well as future strategies and approaches to address them
